Page load speed is very easy to take for granted and few people understand its real importance when it comes to landing page conversion and optimisation.
However, the speed at which your page loads has a huge impact on conversion and ultimately results.
For example, a recent study by Portent’s showed that a page that loads in 1 second has a conversion rate 3 times higher than a site that loads in 5 seconds. Our results across hundreds of sites are similar.
That’s a huge difference.
And on mobile, Google reports that, for every second delay in mobile page load, conversions can fall by up to 20% …and there are numerous other tests that have been done that support this.
The good news is, improving page load speed requires just a bit of tech knowledge and minimal skill, especially non-e-commerce websites (we don't work with e-comm businesses).
So why wouldn’t you make it a priority?
As with most things, there are numerous elements that determine page load speed, but the 2 that will give you the biggest speed enhancements are server performance, and image size.
We (our tech team!) recommend you use Cloudflare for server performance.
Cloudflare is a market leader and amongst other things, it’s been developed to deliver lightning-fast page load speeds (as well as belt and braces security).
And when it comes to image and file sizes, this is often overlooked.
Simply ensure you optimise all images on the page by reducing their file size.
A great FREE online tool that measures your page load speed is called GTmetrix.com...
It measures and grades the speed of loading and shows you the elements that are slowing the page down.
Any decent tech specialist will be able to sort these things out for you.
But don’t dismiss the importance and huge significance of page load speed. If your page load speed is poor, then your conversions will plummet and sales will go through the floor.
